Tithe This…

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

1 Corinthians 13:13

Tis the season to hear sermons on stewardship from pulpits and messages on generosity from nonprofits. Love Speaks Daily does not have a pulpit or a 501c3, so we don’t need donations, tithes, or offerings, but we do have a request.

This season, why not tithe the intangible? In addition to sharing your financial resources with God through tithing and donations, why not give more without ever taking out your wallet? Why not give joy to the stressed customer service agent? Why not give patience to the tired store clerk? Why not give a smile to the impatient driver blowing the horn? Why not give peace to someone waiting on your forgiveness? Why not join in with the sentiment of the Jackson 5 Christmas classic and give love – before Christmas Day?

Throughout his letters, Paul reminds us of the importance of love. As cliché as it has become, 1 Corinthians 13 still speaks to the power of love. Jesus reminded us that the greatest commandments are based on love. Giving love and all the other intangibles is not that hard; it doesn’t cost you a thing.

As you get steep into the holidays, why not add a bit more to your financial gifts and tithe the intangibles. And like we always say in church, the tithe is the minimum, but God wouldn’t be offended if you gave more – love, joy, peace, forgiveness, patience…

To get you motivated, enjoy the Jackson 5 as they sing, “Give Love on Christmas Day.”
