H.A.L.T vs. S.T.I.L.L

Love Speaks Daily Archive · December 3, 2014

“Be still, and know that I am God!
I am exalted among the nations,
I am exalted in the earth.”
Psalm 46:10 (NRSV)

Years ago, a wise woman told me to never make a decision when I am H.A.L.T (hungry, angry, lonely, or tired). My seminary journey from August until now has seen its fair share of H.A.L.T decisions, especially during this final week of classes. In these fast pace, over-booked, over-taxed times, we all are tempted to make H.A.L.T decisions. However, in reviewing Psalm 46:10, another acronym came to mind, S.T.I.L.L (surrender, trust, intimacy, laughter and love).

When we S.T.I.L.L ourselves, we are reminded of who God is in our lives and everywhere else. He is exalted above the nations (His presence is stronger than the powers that try to determine our lives with injustice through the -isms). He is exalted in the earth (His presence stomps out the powers and principalities that seek to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus).

Also, something else happens when we are S.T.I.L.L in the Lord. When we SURRENDER our agenda and our calendar, TRUST in the ways and timing of God, and focus on creating INTIMACY with him, two things can happen. Instead of hunger, anger, loneliness or tiredness, we find LAUGHTER and we experience God’s LOVE.

Are you hunger, angry, lonely or tired? Take a moment, be S.T.I.L.L and know that God is everything you need and more.
