The Invisible Enemy

Seminary almost lulled me to sleep. It almost made me forget that I am a spiritual being having a human experience. However, I got a wake up call during the month of April. I had to remember that just because some people don’t believe in the devil does not mean he doesn’t exist; just because some theologians are more concerned with proving that the Bible is not accurate does not mean it’s not the TRUTH; and just because we God allows us to learn something about him does not mean we know God fully. What I know is this: The enemy does not want Patrice alive, saved and serving in the body of Christ; therefore, satan will do anything and use any willing participant to destroy her life, liberty in Christ and pursuit of the things of God. More than likely if you are a Christian the same holds true for you.

The month of April has been all about remembering the truth that satan gets really angry when the children of God succeed. From health issues to economic issues to academic issues to church issues, satan has tried his/her best to destroy the work of Christ in my life as well as God’s investment in me as a future minister of the Gospel. Chances are if you are even remotely trying to live for Christ or do something in the name of Christ, you have experience satan’s attacks as well. HOWEVER, all is not lost.

As I look back over my life, I remember three things: (1) The enemy is consistent BUT God is faithful; (2) I am not wrestling against flesh and blood; and (3) I am never alone and am never without a protection. My protection is the full armor of God and the best way to live in this armor is to be on purpose. So, while satan and his participants try to figure out the next mode of attack, my goal is to continue in the work and calling which God has placed before me and in me. I can’t force people to accept me, endorse me, stand with me, agree with me, support me or even like me, but what I can do is remember that if I trust in the ONE who will never leave nor forsake me, it will all work itself out in the end. AND, if you are still reading this, please know that no matter what, God’s got your back, your front, your sides and all other angles.

Inspiration: Ephesians 6:10-18, NRSV
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power. Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness. As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. With all of these,[c] take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints.
